Inn by the Sea

Beautiful location. Easy parking. Amazing food! The room was huge (king loft) and offered everything you’d need for a longer stay and the bed was SO comfortable. It just feels tired for the price point and for being an iPrefer hotel. Our phone didn’t work (so we had to go to the lobby to order food each time), the carpet was buckling and had tears and rips everywhere, the face plate fell off the light switch, the heated tiles didn’t work, and it’s VERY loud-you hear every door slam and the doors are so heavy it’s impossible for them not to slam (just add a slow close feature 🤷🏼‍♀️) unless you wait with the door. The front desk the night we arrived seemed generally uninterested and not surprised by our room issues, which was also a miss for this type of stay. We love that it’s pet friendly but it’s definitely more family friendly than we cared for (not everyone thinks a kid dribbling a basketball outside everyone’s windows at 9 AM is cute…). We do think it’s worth trying again and we’ll probably do so in a different room type now that we have a better idea what to expect. Just know it’s a great spot for the area but also due for a bit of an update-both staff and decor.

Personally I thought this place was just okay. It was very expensive. I went because they said it was unscented but I’m not entirely sure that was true? It’s not the kind of place I would normally go to; it’s more of a resort-style place than pure lodging. The surrounding area was very pretty not far from Portland. There is a beach that you can walk to from the property also, but I thought it was a little small. The restaurant was always busy. I pretty much crossed that off for myself though due to my various dietary restrictions. I found out later that with notice they could have made me something which would have been nice. Oh well.. It’s just the scent thing. The linens smelled to me. I’d be curious if they could tell me why??

So grateful to have found such a beautiful pet friendly hotel with no pet restrictions for weight, breed or number of dogs! And no additional fee for pets either! We were searching for a place to go on a Christmas getaway with our 4 dogs and choose Inn by the Sea because it was the only hotel and spa that I could find on the East Coast that would take 4 large dogs. We had an incredible time! The staff was so welcoming and friendly! The check in process was above and beyond my expectations! The man who checked us in gave us all the information we needed about the property, offered to carry in our luggage, and even walked me through the hotel to show me the best place to take the dogs down to the beach and the easiest way to take them outside from our room. There was a dog blanket and treat waiting for us in the room. The room was beautiful. I feel like many of the dog friendly rooms in hotels are dingier than others but that was not the case here. We had the loft suite. It was huge! There was a kitchen with fridge, freezer, microwave, toaster, dishes, silverware. There was a living room with tv downstairs, floor to ceiling windows looking out to the water, and a balcony. They even had board games in the room which was a nice touch! The bed was incredibly comfortable and there was enough room in the loft space for all our dog beds. The bathroom was HUGE! The Jacuzzi tub was amazing as well as the walk in shower. There were robes and slippers in the closet. It was a short walk to the beach from the hotel down a broadwalk. Food at the hotel was expensive but delicious. We got room service which was very convenient with the dogs. The hotel is in a quiet area but there were restaurants and a bunch of state parks near by to walk around. Hotel has a decent gym with different equipment and we both got wonderful massages at the spa! Wish we could have stayed longer! We will definitely be back again!

This review is solely for the spa. I had made a booking 2 months in advance for an afternoon appointment the day after Christmas, just prior to leaving the country. When I returned on Christmas and double checked my confirmation email, the time was wildly incorrect - for 9 am. It being a holiday, the spa was closed. When I spoke with the manager the day-of, I was informed that I would be issued not even a partial refund for the VERY expensive services booked ($456) for an error that THEY had made. It is no surprise that this business is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau.
